Aadhaar Card Photo Size and Print Requirements — Complete Guide

Whether you are a CSC operator printing Aadhaar cards for customers or an individual who needs a physical copy of their Aadhaar, getting the size and print quality right is important. A poorly cropped or low-resolution print looks unprofessional and can cause issues during verification.

Standard Aadhaar Card Dimensions

The standard Aadhaar card follows a credit card size format:

MeasurementSize
Width85.6 mm (3.37 inches)
Height53.98 mm (2.13 inches)
Aspect RatioApproximately 1.586:1

This is the same size as a standard ATM card, PAN card, or driving licence. If you are printing Aadhaar cards for lamination, these dimensions ensure the card fits perfectly in a standard card lamination pouch.

How to Crop Aadhaar Card for Printing

Most people receive their Aadhaar as a downloaded PDF from the UIDAI website. This PDF contains the card on an A4-sized page with a lot of empty space. You need to crop out just the card portion before printing.

Our Aadhaar Cropper tool makes this simple. Upload your Aadhaar PDF or image, select the front and back areas, choose your paper size, and the tool will arrange multiple copies on a single sheet for efficient printing.

Print Settings for Best Quality

DPI (Dots Per Inch): Always print at 300 DPI for sharp text and clear photos. Lower DPI settings like 150 or 72 will make the text blurry and the photo pixelated.

Paper: Use matte or glossy photo paper for the best results. Regular A4 paper works for basic copies but looks less professional. For CSC operators, 4x6 inch photo paper is the most cost-effective option when printing multiple cards.

Colour Mode: Print in full colour. The Aadhaar card uses specific colours for the header and borders that help with visual authentication.

Tips for CSC Operators

If you are running a Common Service Centre and printing Aadhaar cards regularly, here are some practical tips:

Batch printing saves paper and ink. Our cropper tool lets you arrange 4-8 cards on a single A4 sheet. This reduces your per-card cost significantly.

Always print both sides. The back of the Aadhaar card contains the address and QR code, which are essential for verification. Make sure you are printing both front and back.

Lamination matters. After printing, laminate the card in a credit card size pouch (86x54mm). This protects the print from fading and gives it a professional finish that customers expect.

Keep a copy of the original PDF. Always save the customer's downloaded Aadhaar PDF as a backup. If the print goes wrong, you can reprint without asking the customer to download again.

Common Issues

Blurry text after printing: This usually means the source image resolution is too low. Download the Aadhaar from UIDAI portal in the highest quality available. Avoid taking screenshots of the PDF.

Card dimensions are wrong after printing: Make sure your printer is set to "Actual Size" and not "Fit to Page". The "Fit to Page" option will stretch or shrink the card dimensions.

Colours look different: This is usually a printer calibration issue. If colours look washed out, check your printer's ink levels and run a head cleaning cycle.
